On February 17, 1900, Clara Hawk Kneuss was born on a farm in the Tuscarawas Valley. 100 years, six months, and twelve days later, her youngest great-grandchild, Abigail Clara, came into the world, coming home to the Valley her great-grandmother had called home. Today, the Valley welcomes you, just as it has Clara and the many who have come after her. Clara’s Cottage is nestled on the edge of the rolling hills of our working farm in the scenic Crooked Run Valley. These are the same hills that our Swiss Great Grandmother Clara saw the sun peeking over each morning when she went out to the chicken house to gather the hens’ gifts. (We still do, but not quite so early!) We’ve named the cottage after her and her determination and spirit as a hard-working farmwoman of the 20th century. 
We promise - a comfortable and inviting place to lay your head each night and find the restoration you are looking for - we're a labor of love, always in progress. Think of us as “home base” – not perfect, with occasional chips in the china and perhaps a scuff mark on the back screen door, but authentic and holding the promise of simple pleasures - the ideal location from which to launch forth into your day of sightseeing and activities! We love this area, and we want to share it with you. We will be delighted to assist you in any way we can with planning a perfect stay. Just ask! We’re affordable - for less than the cost of many standard, cookie-cutter hotel rooms, you can enjoy your own private country cottage with two bedrooms, an inviting living area, kitchenette to prepare simple meals, roomy bath, and lots of outdoor space! Perfect for couples, families, or even just one to get away from the hectic world outside of our Valley. Family owned - Clara's Country Cottage is owned by our family, including our six children. We have a working beef and crop farm just a mile away from the Cottage, and often have baby bunnies, goats, calves, kittens, and more that our younger visitors may want to stop by to visit! Grandpa and Grandma Kneuss live on the farm adjoining Clara's Country Cottage, and we all look forward to having you as our guests!
